The fact that it updates the vcredist_x86.exe file means that it does provide the updated SP1 CRT
for redistribution onto a non-dev machine. I imagine the amount of time "wasted" as the hotfix
installer scans will vary radically from one machine to another based on drive size and speed,
number of applications installed, number of network connections connected and non-responsive, etc.
It can certainly be frustrating to watch when it seems to be doing nothing productive. This is a
good time for a coffee break -- or lunch. :)

This will update your development machine, but it's not useful for installing the SP1 CRT on a
non-dev machine, which is (I believe) what the OP was looking for.

A warning about this hotfix: Like all VS2005 patches, it takes an inordinate amount of system
resources to install this patch. It will take over 30 minutes to run, during which time it'll
burn up more than 25 minutes of CPU time and perform several GB worth of file I/O (on the order of
20 times the size of the patch itself). You'll be a good 15 minutes into the process before the
patch wrapper asks if you'd like to install it. Later, just to be entertaining, it'll tell you it
has 0 seconds remaining for the last 5-10 minutes of the process.

Windows Installer... such a wonderful piece of technology. Or something.
