I don't know how you are displaying your message. If you can do this, why
not just use a tooltip?

Hello Jonathan,
The "What's This" help is the little question mark cursor that pops when
you
use Shift-F1 combination.
Then when you click that mouse cursor on anything in the window, the
"What's
This" help will pop up.
I had it implemented in WinHelp.
And I cancatch the OnHelpHitTest in the CFormView. I can pop my own
message,
but I can't see how to throw the message away after I have handled it.
I can get the help to pop up, but then I also get an erro message from
Help.

Sorry I can't help you out Jonathan, I am struggling with HtmlHelp
myself.
I can get the F1 and the What's This to work in a Dialog Box, but I am
slowly going bald trying to get What's This to work for a CFormView. Or
a
ToolBar. Or a Menu Item.
To be fair I have read that I can create an afxcore.htm file, and it
will
probably work for the menu items.
Not sure of the ToolBar items though.

I ordered a book (about a decade out of print I think) and I am really
hoping to find some answers in there.
Maybe no one writes Help Files?

I think I recently purchased the same book (Official Microsoft HTML Help
Authoring Kit). It's outdated but no more so than the current HTML Help
viewer distributed with Windows.

At any rate, I did get a formal response from Microsoft on my original
issue
and was told that the functionality was not supported because Microsoft
Office applications do not support this functionality. I can see what is
missing and it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to implement. It's
just that no one has.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the What's This? Is that the same
functionality I was trying to get working on the ribbon?
