The method's stack frame isn't collected until the method exits; it has no
notion of block scope.
public void method() {
Object oy = new Object();
do {
Object o = new Object();
} while (false) ;
// do other stuff
}
So I think we are talking about two different things here. o's objects
are created on the stack but go out of scope at the end of the do loop.
The OP said that there would still be a reference to o's last object
after the loop finished. How can that be if it is inside the block of
the loop. All of the other Objects could have long since been GC'd.
oy's object will still have a reference until the end of method() or
until assigned to another object. As soon as that occurs oy's first
Object can be GC'd even before the end of method(), yes?
