If you are looking at Java books, then probably yes.
But not Java EE / Java web technology books.
First you learn Java.
And then you learn Java EE.
To me Java and Java EE is the same thing. In order to learn a language you have to cover all concepts from a major application of the language.
I think you will end up neither learning Java nor Java EE.
Java is medium size language, Java library is a huge library, Java EE
itself is a huge set of technologies and other Java EE relevant stuff
is gigantic.
You need to take one step at a time.
But
there are many holes in the explanations that will probably lead me
into wasting a lot of time when I try to test them out. Probably, I
would have to keep an experienced Java coder around me to help me out
and this could not be practical.
How much time do you plan on using to learn Java EE?
I plan to learn Java and Java EE at the same time, the basics can be learned relatively fast and only by running the demos and using a good development kit with good debugging/tracing capabilities.
Something as big as Java and Java EE takes time.
